McCain Surges to 4-Point Lead

I found this relevant to previous comments to one of my posts. I find it to no surprise that McCain made this jump in the polls. He’s been doing the right things - being honest with the people. Is the American public realizing who Senator Barack Obama really is?

I hope so. Only time will tell.

Obama doesn’t even know his own Senate committee assignments?

This week while visiting Jerusalem, Obama sought to prove to his audience a deep commitment to Israel. He said this:
“Now, in terms of knowing my commitments, you don’t have to just look at my words, you can look at my deeds. Just this past week, we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, which is my committee, a bill to call for divestment from Iran, as a way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don’t obtain a nuclear weapon.”

The funny thing about this is that according to both the committee’s official website and Obama’s official U.S. Senate website, Obama is not on the banking committee. He tries to prove himself a supporter of Israel by claiming that he helped pass this bill out of committee, and he is not on the committee that passed out the bill.

This incident raises any number of entertaining questions:
1. Does Obama realize that Israel can’t vote in this election?
2. Does Obama actually know which committees he’s on?
3. If he doesn’t know what committees he’s on, why are we still paying his salary? (He’s on five. It’s not a whole lot to remember. I was in 5 organizations in college, and I remember them all!)
4. Is Obama actually capable of saying anything coherent without a teleprompter in front of him?

Now, a serious question. I know we have several Obama fans who read this blog (and drive some pretty interesting discussions!). I am desperate to know: Is there any way that you can possibly defend this? Leaving aside all parallel situations and dealing ONLY with this one at hand, is there any conceivable way to defend this one? Please, help me understand why he would say something so downright…goofy.

I’m sort of insulted that if he had to tell a lie - and yes, it was a lie, and not a mistake, Obama can’t NOT know what committees he’s on - if he had to tell a lie, couldn’t he tell one with a little more nuance? One that does not take three seconds of Googling to blow wide open? Did he think no one would notice, or hope no one would care?

Iran’s missile tests divide Obama and McCain

Direct quotes taken from Douglass K. Daniel of the Associated Press. I feel this is an extremely important article to read and I have made comments throughout. Please leave any thoughts or feedback. WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Wednesday that Iran’s missile tests highlight the need for direct diplomacy as well as tougher threats of economic sanctions and strong incentives to persuade Tehran to change its behavior.

John McCain, the Republican seeking the presidency, said the tests demonstrate a need for effective missile defense, including missile defense in Europe and the defense system the U.S. plans with the Czech Republic and Poland.

Politico.com: Paul Kanjorski “at risk of losing in November”

I wrote several weeks ago that Lou Barletta, mayor of Hazleton and candidate for Congress in the 11th district, is presenting a stiff challenge to incumbent congressman Paul Kanjorski.

It’s not just me who thinks that Barletta is putting the heat on Kanjorski - Politico.com published a story yesterday calling Kanjorski one of the “five Democratic incumbents least likely to win next year.”

According to The Politico, “Kanjorski is the one congressman on this list who represents a district regularly carried by Democratic presidential candidates. Indeed, Kanjorski has cruised to reelection since his first win in his northeast Pennsylvania district in 1984.” In 2004, Kanjorski ran unopposed and won 94% of the vote. In 2006, running against an opponent, he won easily with 72%. Now, says The Politico, he’s in serious danger of losing the seat, even despite the significant fundraising advantage that incumbents always enjoy and the fact that the media insists this will be a bad year to run as a Republican.

Among the reasons given for Kanjorski’s flailing, foundering campaign? He hasn’t spent much time in the district meeting with voters (I thought that was half his job) and he’s gotten soft from so many easy wins (I don’t think much of anyone who would take my vote for granted).

The article also cites Barletta’s energetic efforts to combat illegal immigration in Hazleton. (he drafted and helped pass laws against hiring illegal immigrants or renting houses and apartments to them).

If you reside in or near the 11th district (encompassing Carbon County, Columbia County, Monroe County, and parts of Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties), please keep your eye out on this website, as well as on our Facebook and STORM pages, for opportunities to help Barletta on to victory! You can sign up to volunteer for the campaign here.

No Media Outrage Over Offensive Rolling Stone McCain Cartoon

Rolling Stone Cartoon

I was forwarded this link from a good friend, and I am at a loss for words.

The fact that this can get zero coverage clearly demonstrates that some people are blind to there own hypocrisy. I urge you to digg this story so that it gets seen by as many people as possible.

Getting Serious About Domestic Oil Exploration

Yesterday President Bush dropped the executive branch’s moratorium on offshore drilling. Today crude oil futures dropped by more than $9 a barrel. Coincidence? Economist and syndicated columnist Larry Kudlow doesn’t think so.

One of the Democrat Congress’ more oft-repeated excuses for not allowing off-shore drilling is the notion that it will take at least ten years to begin producing oil from offshore sources and at least that long for oil prices to come down as a result.

Instead, oil companies haven’t even fired up their drills and oil futures for next month have dropped 6.3%. President Bush, Senator McCain and the responsible members of Congress have come out in favor of offshore drilling and the price of oil is dropping - that price drop can only continue when the rest of Congress finally feels the heat, sees the light, and lifts their ban on offshore drilling. Once that happens, Wall Street researchers predict it’ll take less than a year to start pumping oil from beneath the shallow oceans off the coast of California.

We have to get a jump on domestic oil production to see a sustained drop in oil prices - but as President Bush proved today, simply showing that we are serious about domestic production is enough to get the prices headed downward.

The Democrats are worried about the 4th district…

Politico.com is reporting that the Democratic National Campaign Committee plans to spend $554,000 in TV advertising on behalf of current congressman Jason Altmire in the 4th district as he tries to fend off a challenge from former congresswoman Melissa Hart.

The DCCC is dispatching $35 million to buy ads in 31 districts nationwide. They’re spending less than a third of that money helping out their incumbents. It seems pretty clear that the Democrats are nervous about their ability to hold onto this seat. They ought to be! Congresswoman Hart is running a strong, issue-focused campaign and an excellent grassroots effort.

If you’d like to get involved, there are several opportunities to help with door-to-door efforts in the next few weeks:

Saturday 7/12, West Deer Township (Allegheny County), 4 PM - evening

Saturday 7/19, Pine Township (Allegheny County), 10:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Sunday 7/20,  Indiana Township  (Allegheny County),12: 30 PM - evening

Saturday 7/26, Mercer County, meeting at 10:00 AM in Hermitage
Sunday 7/27, West Deer Township 12:30 PM - evening

Satuday 8/2, Murrysville, Delmont and Export (Westmoreland County), 1030am - evening
Sunday 8/3, Murrysville, Delmont and Export, 12:30 PM - evening

Also, on Friday 8/1, Congresswoman Hart will be walking in West Deer Township Community Day Parade and needs a few volunteers to walk with her. Line-up is at 6 PM.

Obamas terrorist friends- William Ayers, and now Hatem El-hady

Obamas terrorist friends- William Ayers, and now Hatem El-hady

By now we have all heard and watched videos on Rev. Jeremiah Wright. If you follow politics closely you probably know about William Ayers and his wife Bernadine who was once on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list. At the time FBI also considered Bernadine the most dangerous female in the United States. Due to a technicality the couple was never jailed for the bombings. The Ayers have thrown at least one fundraiser for Obama in Chicago where they served on a charity board together. There is a great youtube video I recommend to learn more about the Ayers/Obama link.

Welcome to the New PA College Republicans

Welcome to our new site. We’ve worked very diligently to get this site launched by this point, and our hard work certainly paid off. This site is one which will appeal to a wider audience. For our supporters, you can see what we are up to on our blog and events page. For those looking to get involved, we have a page designated just for that. On this page, you can find your chapter, or you can contact us directly to start your own at your school. Finally, for those already members of this great federation, we have several resources on our internships page as well as our blog. We hope to give each chapter chair access to this blog and they will be able to update everyone on this page with what is happening on their campuses. We could have a great dialogue on this page.
