How our Caucus System works...

The Pennsylvania caucus system is broken down into seven different regions: Northwest, Southwest, North Central, South Central, Northeast, Lehigh Valley, Southeast. These regions enable chapters to communicate amongst each other in the most effective ways. A caucus chair is appointed to each caucus, who acts as a liaison between chapters and the state board. This caucus chair is also a liaison between chapters in the region.

The caucus system, however, is not only used for communication. The PA system has since evolved into a main means of grassroots mobilization. The regions enable chapters to come together and work hard during election years. The caucus chair becomes a facilitator, directing chapters to particular campaigns that need grassroots assistance.

Yet another means of the caucus system is to train. The system allows for the state executive board to tour the state by region and train all chapters within the state. This helps prepare all chapters for the upcoming election seasons. Recently, during the 2006 election, the state board visited each caucus and provided training sessions in communication, grassroots planning, and election year preparation.

The Pennsylvania caucus system is essentially a tool for the state executive board, chapter chairs, and chapters. Without the caucus system in PA, communication would be terribly difficult. However, with it, we can sweep the state with grassroots mobilization in a few simple calls and emails.
